Parents pick prayer over docs; girl dies
by veradico inby robert imrie, associated press writer thu mar 27, 7:57 pm et .
weston, wis. - police are investigating an 11-year-old girl's death from an undiagnosed, treatable form of diabetes after her parents chose to pray for her rather than take her to a doctor.

Disgusting! They will likely be charged with criminal negligence and endangering the welfare of a child because they are her parents and any average parent would get appropriate help for their kid. These guys knew at the time that they should have called 911 and will likely be found guilty of child neglect and endangerment. I study law and they are criminally liable for her death. The other kid(s) will likely be removed from the home for their protection. At least, this is what I see happening. I hope our legal system doesn't fail the other child.

Don't bother recycling ... God will fix the earth
by 10p inhttp://www.watchtower.org/e/20031122a/article_03.htm
just browsing the site for kicks, and this annoyed me.
typical jw attitude - with the readership they supposedly have, they could have made a real difference ... encouraged all jw's to recycle, buy carefully etc.

That's why I say that prayer (talk) is cheap. It gets absolutely nothing done!

praying before a meal
by megaflower ini have stopped.
it brings up too many memorys of having some elder pray for the cong before we partook of any food.
it just seemd like a big production, all would gather around and bow heads in silence while some senior male gave thanks- no more- no thanks

Yes, why indeed does it always have to be the all powerful elder that prays for a group at a picnic? Showy display. Come on, you know it has to stroke their egos a bit.

I always hated praying. It didn't mean anything to me. I thought it had to contain lots of words like the elders say all the time. For me and some others like me, it becomes so redundant and just words that lose all meaning. I can show my appreciation for the things mother earth and father sun given me in more practical ways, like not wasting anything and recycling. Showing thankfulness is more important and useful than just saying it without action to back it up. JW's say prayers all the time with no proof of their words. Do they push recycling? Giving to charity? Working for charity or save the planet organizations to prove how grateful they are for their food? Never was I encouraged to do such self sacrificing work. Never. Prayers mean nothing. Actions speak much louder and get a lot more done. Ever sent a letter to a farmer to thank them for their hard work in growing your food? Commercialism aside, people make things grow.

I can't believe I didn't see this and put 2 and 2 together and come up with 4. I always came up with the 3 or 5 they gave us at the hall. I figured out years ago that the Bible was really R rated. Now it's child porn X.

Red Sea Chariot Wheels?
by MissingLink inhey guys.
there is an email making the jw (and other christians) rounds right now that is basically a copy of this article.
that claims that artifacts found in the red sea prove that egypt's army was wiped out when moses and friends crossed.. is this true, or a hoax?.

I, too, read about the Red Sea's original name of Reed Sea. Somewhere, it lost an 'e'. That tells me that it might not be that deep and that weather/climate conditions could possibly make it shallow enough to cross, at times. If there are wheels found in it, I would suspect that they were the wheels of merchants traveling to sell their wears and simply got bogged down and stuck in the mud when the sea was shallow in that part of it. Didn't that happen when the pioneers tried crossing creeks and lost their wagons due to the rushing water? A lot of people died crossing those creeks and rivers.

What was your first Religious Experience ?
by Casper injust wondered how others first learned about religion.
i know "born ins" were taught from the start but the rest of us had to start somewhere.
my very first memory of anything supposedly religious was at the age of six... my grandmother took me to a "tent revival".

I'm not religious, anymore, so I would have to say "spiritual." I have a spiritual experience the first time and everytime I meditate. It's amazing! No weird events but I feel so at one with all that exists. It's wonderful. And yes, I do feel very spiritual when out in nature and taking in all that is around me, just experiencing what nature is.

Does anyone know? Question about early JW beliefs.
by hotchocolate inhelloooo people .
i was under the impression that the witnesses didn't have any belief in an earthly class until 1935-ish.. and yet in 1925 (?
) they built beth sarim in san diego to house the faithful men of old when they returned to earth.

Hi HC,
Good to hear from you. I was wondering what happened. Thought you might have gone back. I'm glad you are still looking for things. Once this critical thinking started up with me, I could not stop it. It just kept getting bigger and bigger until it finally got so big that nothing whatsoever that the JWs say made sense or was true or was even logical. Yes, the light keeps getting brighter focused on THEM. Good luck and please do let us know how it's going with your hubby and the elders. I hope it has settled down for you.
